The first professional cesarean section was performed in the United States in 1827. Before 1800, cesarean section was performed rarely and was usually fatal. In London and Edinburgh in 1877, of 35 cesareans performed, 33 resulted in the death of the mother. By 1877, there had been 71 cesarean section operations in the United States. The mortality rate was 52 percent, mainly because of infection and hemorrhage. SN - PB - McGraw-Hill Medical CY - New York, NY Y2 - 2024/04/18 UR - obgyn.mhmedical.com/content.aspx?aid=1106377514 ER -
