Sonography can image the fetus with remarkable precision. Components of the standard anatomic survey are listed in Table 15-1. These have been termed essential elements by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (2020) and minimal elements by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (2018). Ideally, residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology includes education in acquisition and interpretation of these views. Resources provided by national societies assist with this endeavor (Abuhamad, 2018).
